Birthday Fun

For Mason's birthday, we swam and had a BBQ with some of our family over at Chase's parent's house.
We kept it pretty low key since we're going on a trip to Disneyland next weekend for his birthday.

He was more excited about presents than I thought he would be! Last Christmas he didn't really understand the concept of them, but he definitely had a better idea this time, probably because he loves toys now. And wrapping paper, of course.

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes and fun presents, he loves them all!

The cupcake eating didn't go as smoothly though. He looked pretty excited to eat it, but when it came down to it, he wanted absolutely nothing to do with it!
Which is funny, because the other day he practically ate a whole lemon, but yet he wouldn't eat a sugary cupcake! I think there might be something wrong with our child.

Oh well though! I guess I can't really complain that my child doesn't want to eat sugary things. I just wish he would eat something though. Let's just say food doesn't excite him as much as toys do.

Here he is at church today wearing one of his new shirts :)

He sure is a handsome cupcake-refusing one year old.

Happy 1st Birthday Mason!

It's hard to believe that a year ago today I was in the hospital,
confused, scared and worried out of my mind.
I wasn't ready emotionally, physically, or mentally for Mason to come yet,
but I had faith that everything would be okay and that Heavenly Father was looking out for us.
After 10 hours of trying to stop my premature labor, I was 9cm dilated and the doctor gave up trying to keep him inside me any longer.
Mason was coming 6 weeks early and there was nothing anyone could do to stop him.
I was devastated that I couldn't keep him safe in his little cocoon inside me anymore,
because having him inside me was easy, and I didn't think I was ready to face the challenges that lied ahead.

Then 5 hours after the doctor decided to let me continue with my labor, he came into this world.
The second he came out I was overwhelmed; but not because I was worried anymore.
It's almost as if my motherly sense knew that everything was going to be okay,
because I had him there, in my arms.
It was the most amazing feeling in the world to be holding him,
this little peanut that had been growing inside me for the past 8 months.
There he was, perfect in every way, and healthy as can be.
He is our little miracle and will forever be our sweet angel.

Mason, you have grown and developed so much over the past year,
it amazes me to look back at the pictures and see how tiny you were!
One year has made such a difference and I'm so grateful for the health that you have been blessed with.
Being your mother has been the most amazing blessing and such a fulfilling experience;
I can't imagine my life without you.
It's like you have filled an empty hole inside me that I never knew I had and have filled it with the most amazing love I have ever known.
Your dad and I love you SO much and are so lucky to have been chosen to be your parents.
I hope you have the best birthday ever and that you have lots of fun!
We can't wait to take you to Disneyland next week to keep on celebrating your big day!

Let's look back and see how you've grown...

My First Mother's Day

Last year I missed Mother's Day by two measly weeks.
Of course, I didn't know that at the time.
I thought I had quite a ways to go,
so celebrating Mother's Day just seemed silly to me since I wouldn't have my own little bundle for another couple of months.
But out he came two and a half weeks later and boy was he the best belated Mother's Day gift.

This year, my first real Mother's Day,
was quite fantastic, I must say.

It started out with waking up to Chase making my favorite breakfast...
chocolate chip pancrepes and bacon. YUM.
Side note: Pancrepes are thinner than a pancake, but thicker than a crepe (we're pretty picky about our pancake thickness around here).

Chase surprised me with a beautiful necklace with Mason's birthstone on it and an entire box of my favorite seasonal See's candy.
Another side note: See's double caramels are my favorite but are quite rare to come across and are only in stores like twice a year... so you can imagine the joy on my face when I opened up the box to find a surplus of them to get me through until they return again.

Then we went to church with our mommies and enjoyed the rest of the day with family.
I'd say it was a wonderful first Mother's Day!

One last side note: Happy Mother's Day to my mom, mother-in-law, and grandma! You are 3 of the most selfless and caring people I know-- I really hit the jackpot with wonderful examples of mothers in my life.

Happy Mother's Day everyone!

Last Week/end via Instagram

Last week started out pretty rough,
with Mason getting a 103 degree fever for a couple of days.

It turned out to be roseola,
so we were glad to know the cause of his fever once the rash showed up.

We were grateful it was a non-irritating rash,
so once his fever was gone he was back to his normal self and we were able to enjoy the weekend with a happy baby.

We went on a couple sunset strolls.

We made messes.

And learned that Chase is a silly dad.

We played around.

A lot.

Mason had his first trampoline experience and of course, LOVED it.

We celebrated Chase's brother and sister-in law's graduations from ASU.

We made new friends (who were fond of Mason).

Mason finally decided grass isn't scary and sat down and crawled on it for the first time.

And last, but not least, we splish-splashed with grandpa in the pool.

So at least the week had a pleasant ending :)
